Computer issues...why doesn't stuff ever just work.

Ok I picked up a new D-link router because the port forwarding on my old one just did not work.

d-link WBR-2310

So I plug it all in and its good to go, however I can only get 2 out of the 3 computers on the internet.

The one I am having an issue with, keeps connecting and disconnecting itself around every 4 seconds. Making it impossible to have an internet connection.

Every 4 seconds I get the error a local network connection is unpluged.

I know it is not the network cable as i've tried swithing it with another computer on the network and the problem didn't change.

Everything was working before the router, now everything except one computer is working.

Not the cable
No firewall blocking the connection

I'm lost, as this is an odd messed up prroblem. I have a crap load of work to do and this is not what I need to be spending time fixing. Any help would be great.

I put in another card (disabled both onboard lans) seems to be working fine.

Anyone still have any ideas on what would cause that with my on board lans?

it's pretty rare, but sometimes they just die. I had the same type of connection problem with one router before and it ended up being a dead port on the router.

Because it's technology. That's why the stuff never works. If you ever get into a job where you work around technology you will learn it soon enough. I am in video production (Just a student right now, but definitely going to be my career) and you will also learn that there are always at least two ways to do it, and you will always have to use the harder way. Dammit why can't they have ONE SIMPLE VIDEO FORMAT?????

What ^^^^ said. I'm doing a co-op now at a computer help desk and things that shouldn't be an issue, usually end up taking way more time to do because. Just because. Had to wipe a laptop and re-install WinXP on Friday but after the re-install, none of the drivers loaded. Not even the mouse driver. Had to go online, find some of the drivers and use microsoft update to fill in the gaps.

That reminds me, if you're using XP, keep it updated. Check every month, minimum for updates and let 'em happen.

Yea I picked up a new hard drive today since the 15 in it was to make sure that I could get everything working before I put money into another drive.

So long story short, I had to format and install windows twice because something messed up the first time around. I could get networking working, I could install any network drivers... nothing.

You said you got the new one cause u needed portforwarding. Its pointless to forward any ports for dynamic ips. So i assumed you changed them all to static. If you didnt disable DHCP after this or atleast change its ip scope then it will have the dissconnectiong problem. The router attempts to give and ip out thats in use or attempts to change the computers.

alot of times fiddlin with teh computers will ge the them all to work until the network restarts

This is the most common problem i have to fix when im at work.
