Grrrr!!!........Day Light Saving Time !!!

Am I the only SA who's eyes are bleeding from reading about the new DST rules ?!

The sequence of events that has to happen between clients and Exchange environments....
...and the itty-bitty-little window of time that it needs to happen in is ridiculous!

I love my job.....but I just may have to quit and go work for a company in Arizona! (no DST there!)

Ok, end of my rant.

Yeah, we are having issues here too.

All these updates and junk.

Why can't people just switch thir computer off of automaticly switching daylight saving time, and move it forward manually like they do with thier clocks and junk?

Ah well, there's always something to keep IT busy.

We'd play too many video games if they didn't give us somethign to do, right?

Got that right!

Let's see.....
DST OS patch to exchange
DST OS patch to clients.....(oh yea, but not the last few win2k clients)
DST Exchange patch to the Exchange clusters
Run the Exchange DST "Tool" to adjust existing calendar items

....all before the users make any new calendar entries.
.......oh yea, and the Exchange DST Tool is FUBR'ed....awaiting a re-release of that little gem !

Oh yea, and we take an "overly conservative" approach to server service packs here.......so we've got an OS and an Exchange SP that need to go in before any of this can start.

I'm just glad I don't have to deal with our Blackberry servers!

Took me about 8 straight hours yesterday, but I finally got the workstation stuff all scripted out....as usual, the helpdesk guys owe me!

I'm dying from the DST stuff too .. 7 distinct flavors of OS .. 15 apps that require remediation .. the easiest of which is java itself ...

Me too. Old As400, linux boxes, new as400, bsd boxes, w2k and xp mixed clients.
You cant ahve the users do it as in most domains they cant change the clocks, although you could change that temporarily or longer if you wanted.

Sorry, that was totally off-topic. Anyway, I'm just really glad I'm out of the help desk loop nowadays. I don't think this change has much, if any, impact on our LMS (Blackboard Vista 3.0), but it's got its own quirks that keep us jumping. Like, about 4 months ago, it decided that each entry in the chat log needed to be written about 6 times. And now, we're looking to "upgrade" to Bb Vista 4.0, but they have yet to provide a migration tool that actually works. Telling our faculty that all of their old courses will just go away was my suggested solution, but the higher-ups didn't think they'd go for that...

Now take your issues and add a few hundred different clients, some of which still have NT hiding on their network. It is such a headache that MS has a webinar on it. Users have no idea the enjoyment this provides IT staff....
