He didn't necessarily give it out. Fport, netstat, or any other number of tools could have been used to get it.

It's much easier than that. Besides the programs Wycke listed, I could have just gotten him to visit a website with a log through a bit of social engineering. It is scary how much you can find over the internet. That's partially why I'm thinking about studying information security when I go to college.

That's why you DO NOT give out your name or phone number on the internet. Good for getting info on spammers though...

An IP doesn't matter really.

I'd give mine out right now, and I know all the mods on here can see it.

Edit: I don't believe you can pull THAT kind of info using just an IP. Show me proof. I'll message you my IP, I want to know where I live.

Sure can. Don't put my address, name or phone number out if you actually get them though.

That's your private network IP. You and thousands of other people use that same one. Your real outbound IP is what's needed. How easily I'd be able to track your IP back to you really depends on a couple things. Including whether or not your IP is static or dynamic.

Wycke I saw in another thread that you're taking internet and computer security classes. I was wondering what college you're going to and what your major is. I've narrowed my college choices down to about 4 but I'm still undecided.
