A guy in one of my classes showed this to us this morning. Plug in any host name/web address and it digs up all sorts of cool info. Like doing nslookup and whois all at once, plus more. They even have a toolbar you can use to check any site you happen to be on. Pretty cool, yet kind of scary. They also have historical info. For example, I looked up a domain I have registered and used to host on a machine at home. It found the current host server, IP, etc, and also the old IP, even the version of Apache that was running on that server.

Why is that scary? It is public and easy to find information.

Well, it's a little disconcerting to see that all those little bits of info you have to register here or there can be pulled from one place all at once. Imagine if every e-mail address you've ever had, every address you've ever lived at, and every phone number you've ever had could be found on one website with one query. I mean, this isn't that bad, but it could be....

Pretty cool.
They must run some sort of DB, definitely not a live lookup though.
I moved my domain 2 or 3 months ago and they're still reporting the old registrar info.

I've used sites like these a number of times.

This kid scammed my brother so I ended up tracking him down. Just by catching his IP address from AIM. I was able to find his full name, family members, phone number, cell phone number, address, high school, a picture of his house, even detailed information about his housing plans.

I ended up scaring him so much that he gave everything back.
