New Build Questions....MB/processor any suggestions?

Hi....so I guess Ive come to the conclusion that I need to upgrade my desktop yet again...that being said ive been out of the loop for awhile and I am not up to date as to what is current...

Cuurently I am running a Sempron Socket 754 processor 1.5 gigs DDR ram and a 7600gt video card PCI express, sata HD etc....

I plan on building my own machine....keeping the video card as for now. I game (oblivion, NVN, WH Dawn of War, BF2 etc) but certainly cant afford to build a "gaming machine" Something middle of the road.

I guess I am looking for the best processor/ motherboard combo "bang for your buck" I find that it is best to stay 1 generation behind for price reasons

I am looking for a "jumping off point" here...i dont even know where to begin the research.

I generally build AMD machines but I am not opposed to comparable Intel solutions.

any thoughts, suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank You

Any of the socket AM2, Athlon 64X2 processor/motherboard combo should work well. You'll have to get new RAM as AM2 boards use DDR2.

If you're looking for a place to buy parts, I highly suggest newegg.com.
