Yeah Ive pretty much narrowed it down to IBM's and Dell's but most likely an IBM. I want to beef it up but it will cost me an arm and leg, even though i know they will run fine for years with stock specs.

HP bought Compaq a few years back and use that name on their lappys but not on desktops, FYI.

Macbook is nice, but I like IBM or Dell.

Dell is nice because they'll let you do a parts only warranty, where they send you the part that broke, and you replace it, and send them back the broken one.

If you get gold covereage, they even cover accidents like spilling coffee, and dropping them.

I really like thinkpads too, very well built, and rugged.

Tough call.

Sounds like you have a real dilemha.

One thing agains the macbook (I am an apple certified tech) Apple's warranty sucks, and they won't do anything they absolutely don't have to.

They don't usually have a problem, but when they do, Apple just doesn't do customer service.

They could learn alot from Dell, who seems to be the opposite in my experience.

However, I hear they have different service for educaitonal institutions, and business than for ordinary people, so that may be different in that area.

Here is my dilema. ( I wish I could update the title but i cant). Anyways, I have been leaning heavily on the Thinkpads, until now that is. Im having second thoughts because I want good specs, including a grapichs card. The minimum specs I origionally wanted where 2.0ghz dual core processor, 2Gig ram, 120G HD, 256 dedicated graphics card, smaller screen, good battery. But Im having trouble finding that besides dell, and I was trying to shy away. So what am I going to do here, sacrifice graphics and specs for a reliable machine(IBM) Or get the specs I want in a dell? Hopefully people still read this thread, help is appreciated...

I looked at the link you sent me, and appreciate the multiple responses. My first thought about Clevo was "Why havent I heard of them before". Basically I threw it out the window before because I thought it was a cheap computer with no support but then thankfully you posted again, and I took a better look. They are a defiante possibility now, depending on where i can buy one out of. So thanks for the tip on the oem B.

No real advantage i have found in shopping around much they are all the same prices. Go with the retailer who is convenient and has the set up you want.

I am saving a few more weeks for this one Configurator with 2gigs of ram, 80 gig HD @7200rpm win XP pro bluetooth and the 3 year warranty it will be a good chunk of change.

Ya that looks like a solid machine for the price though. Good graphics even. Let me know how it works when you do end up getting it.

I would certainly buy an IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T series.

They are simply built better than other laptops. Fujitsu laptops are also built well, but they are priced similar to the Thinkpad's, and thinkpads have a ton of value built into them just because of their name and their rightfully earned fanbase.

Id buy a thinkpad t series, 14 inch sxga, the lowest end 4mb fsb core 2 duo which is i believe a 2gb processor, 1 stick of 1 gb ram because 2gb is extremely expensive from the factory.. those are the important options to me.

Really, 1500 dollars isnt all that much when you consider it will last you a good 4 years, and then you can sell it for a good 300 plus and even 500 dollars, and it will actually freaking work during all of that time, unlike many laptops.

Another thing for me is that I absolutely love the eraser nub pointing device. Fujitsu has those as an options but I dont know if anyone else still does.. they really make it easier for me, while i am typing i can just cruise a bit up to a different line of text or whatever and give a little click without moving my hands much at all, it is a good convenient system.

Just be a pro and be happy and get a thinkpad

Dell is o.k. but still just ugly, and XPS's are probably the ugliest machines ive seen ever, besides the alienware laptops.

Last i was looking at alienware though, they were a pretty great bargain considering all of the high end equipment you were getting, not sure how they are now though, since their laptops are just too silly looking to own.

And stuff like voodoopc.com is just too pricey.

Id go thinkpad, bite the bullet and get the best machine.

Edit - that Sager with an OS and similar components to the thinkpad ends up being almost the same price.
