XBOX 360 wifi questions

My old xbox has died after 5 years on the boat ( with the power we get and the vibration I'm stunned it lasted so long). I have received wifley permission to get a 360 and I want to get the elite since it's not that much more. I was wondering if any standard USB wifi antenna can connect the xbox to our boats router or do I need to buy a $90 Microsoft one specificly for the xbox?
Can I play online with a Sprint air card or is the lag going to be horrible?
The air card is 802.11g and is compatible with the 360.
Any input or advice from 360 owners would be appreciated, I'm not getting a WII or PS3, I love Halo too much

Thanks
Tug

Sorry I can't help with the 360 but do you know what went wrong with the xbox? Feel like selling it?

I know exactly what's wrong. The connection from the plug to the board on the power source has zapped it self. I don't have a torx-10 to get it apart here on the boat but I'm going to attempt to do it at home and resoldier the connection. I'd rather keep it for now but we'll see how it goes.

Thanks
Tug

Oh, okay. I believe Microsoft recalled the old power cords for exactly that reason. I sent them my serial number and they sent me a new cord with a surge protector. That was about a year ago.

If you get it working and get a 360 I'd suggest doing a soft mod to it. Fun project and it turns it into a great media center.

Yes, there was a "recall" about 2 or 3 years ago, where MS sent me a new power cord that had a massive surge protector on the plug. Just big enough that it took up the last 2 available spots on my home theaters power strips.

I can't speak to other adapters since I still havent gotten around to upgrading my old xbox, however you might want to take a quick read here.

TeamXbox usually has some really good xbox info, and for the most part seems to occasionally be un-biased. The general jist of their review below is that the xbox 360 wireless adapter, actually IS a very good unit.

Also look at getting a UPS from APC to smooth out those power issues.
