I've been playing for a few nights now (all in random battles) and it's good fun. I completed the 8 training missions and, so far I've really enjoyed playing as a passive scout and it's a little bit more fun to be in a Tank Destroyer. I've largely settled on the German Tech Tree for no real reason other than my vague recollections of WWII History which leads me to believe that the Germans had pretty good armored vehicles from the start, to the mid point of the war). I will probably try a Self-Propelled Gun at the very least to see what's about and, how as a scout, I can support them better (I've come to find it a little annoying to be in a great hide, observing folks and no arty comes in before the enemy stumbles on me). Of course, I play as uv_halo. Advice is certainly welcome

I like your point about learning how to scout to become better with the SPG. I played light, fast tanks at first just driving around like an idiot. After some coaching by an arty driver I got the hang of it, and it sure made the transition to being a good arty driver that much easier. Now my next goal is to become good at counter arty. Nothing like taking out their arty in one shot and them having no idea where it came from. |

IMO the best tank for counter arty is the ELC AMX. Its so sneaky, quick and the top gun + HE will 1 shot a GW panther. I used to think it was a complete piece of crap until I found out if you're sneaky its a guaranteed arty kill every match normally you can get all of them.

There's a very good lesson in all of this, which is that to truly become good at one type of tank, you need to become proficient with all of them. I wouldn't be as good with arty if I didn't spend time scouting. I wouldn't be as good with my heavy if I didn't spend time watching their movement and learning to pick shots while hanging back on arty. Each tank type will teach you something about the others.

As an arty player, I hate the ELC AMX. And on a side note, I think it is the only decent looking french tank. All of the rest are ugly. Seriously, France? Will be on shortly, hit me up for a platoon anyone. Username - ratherdashing
