I saw a link for World of Tanks (Army Tank Games | Battle Tank Games | Best Tank Games - WorldofTanks.com) today and read up on it. It's completely free to play, and from what I can tell, free to advance and level tank battle simulator. Not really hard to play, has cool tech tree advancements, and the graphics aren't half bad. Check it out if you're looking to kill some time with a fun, arcade type simulator. I played the beta, very enjoyable. There is a point where it can seem like grinding involved to get to each tier up however I preferred the lower level tanks like the M3 Stewart as you get better match ups as a medium to highest level tank in the battles rather than the M5 Stewart where your the bottom of the barrel and cant even damage the 6 Tiger 2's you'll be matched up against for example. My tanks were maxed out and I didn't bother buying new ones because a stock level 5 tank is so much worse than a pimped out Level 4 tank. I had a maxed PzIII, maxed M3 Stewart, and a maxed out Panzerjager 1 if I recall correctly (that thing was awesome though, able to rip Tigers and KV-1's new holes.)

Ha ha ha, I feel ya. Played for about eight hours yesterday and two so far this morning. It's fun; I'm not really good, but it's still a nice break from other games especially since there isn't anything good out now.

I'm okay... after downloading everything and exploring the "manual", I can see that this is going to be too complicated for me. Also, all the discussion of buying upgrades and "real money" has me thinking that this has the potential to be another nickel and dime drain. Finally, I cannot seem to find any way to practice moving around or operating the tank on my own. I am not too likely to enter battle with actual people without any clue what I am supposed to be doing or... even how to work the tanks. Anyway. It looks like fun. Cheers, D |

I haven't run into too much in the way of complicated game play. You have to get a crew, upgrade your tank if you wish, and play. Basically WASD for movement and mouse for aiming and fire. You can spend the $10 a month for the premium account, but I don't see the need. In the 10 or so hours I've played, I've earned enough Silver and Research XP to acquire and upgrade two basic level tanks and an additional light tank with a few upgrades. Hasn't cost me a penny of real money. If you want the uber upgrades and monster heavy tanks you'll either have to grind away through game play or pay the $10. I'm fine with my light tanks. To practice, you can do "Training Battles" instead of the "Standard Battles". You don't earn any coin or XP but you can mess around and get the hang of it. I did that at first, got my skills down and then headed over to the regular battles. |
