Ugh yea, dont even bother using primes for paintball. People always say "just get closer or further" but not often can you do that. I tried to get a few "player shot" pictures with my 35mm 1.8 and that was hell to do, anything short of posing for a picture between games wont work.

What do you plan on doing with these images?

I don't see a huge market for agg shots of a dood all tight behind the taco with a stream of balls in the air.

Unless you are shooting porn.

Wait, I'm actually suppose to Do something with photos afterward? I just enjoy screwing with photography, and getting the odd good shot to share with the players.

As for shooting with primes, I'm expecting it would be far more challenging, and basically limited to setting up shots and angles of probable areas before the game even starts. Either I would get expected shots that game, or I would miss them, with no real wiggle room when something goes screwy on me. However, I think may also translate into a general better quality set of photos. I'm not there trying to document individual games or events, but rather generating interesting images from a challenging subject matter.

Plus, the primes are lenses I want to collect anyway.

That said, canon's 70-200 f/4 has been damned tempting. Not something I'm likely to find locally used, and I'm more than a little cautious about buying used online. (Had several headaches in the past.) New, it is barely over budget, but that does stretch the emergency replacement budget higher than I had wanted. Also seems to be on sale from Canon. Just wish they weren't black and white.

I second KEH. I've bought several lenses from them and have always been pleasantly surprised that they were in much better condition than their grade.
