I was about to post this. I think the friendly AI was specifically programmed to go to the nearest heavily defended bottleneck and wait to get shot.

I just had Wing Commander flashbacks!

You want bad AI? Watch the Angry Video Game Nerd - AVGN is a guy who drinks beer and curses loud and long while reviewing games from the dawn of video games to now. He's been doing these reviews for like 8 years now, and his collection of games is something to behold, but I keep coming back just to see what bad game he's ripping on this week.

Super Mario. Those Goombas just walk in a straight line and never aggro! I mean, what kind of BS is that

Monopoly on the NES.
The AI would spend all it's money to either get a monopoly, or break up a monopoly.
Just get him to spend all his money on either and every other property would go to auction which you could win for $1.

There was also a baseball game on the Radio Shack TRS80. As soon as you got a man to 3rd base, you just steal home and the pitcher would send it right down the middle for an easy home run hit.

First, on Fallout Tactics, I always took control of the members, and lead opponents into ambushes and crossfires, so I never really had that problem.

Second, you guys have no idea the difficulty to making a good AI system. Having programmed (although very rudimentary) video game AI, I can tell you it is not an easy feat, more so these days where the environment is very dynamic and there are many variables. It consumes a lot of system resources, as the bots are constantly checking distances (we have had our system crash several times because of it). Lastly, it is super expensive to buy an AI pack, or take the time to create one.

L4d is prety bad, speciallly when playing online against real people. If you're playing survivors with 3 ai and you're alone, good luck making it much further than 50% of the way.

L4D you can do all right with 3 AI, but L4D2? Forget it. I've played weeks worth of L4D because I can get by with just the AIs and no one else to depend on, but maybe only 2 hours worth of L4D2. Need to fix that now I've got the new computer...

Sorry, i did mean l4d2.

4 human infected vs 3human survivors and 1 bot = the 3 humans leave the one bot behind as sacrifice. It's the only way.

Monopoly on the (original) xbox was pretty terrible as well. I think the computer player's actions were determined at the beginning of the turn sequence (rather than at the beginning of its actual turn) as it would try to initiate a trade and then the game would freeze on the trade screen if the property it was presumably interested in had changed hands before its turn (i.e. you had boardwalk, it had park place, and you managed to trade for the latter and complete the set on your turn before the computer's turn).

I've had plenty of games with dumb AI, but one that locks up every time a fairly common event occurs is absolutely unacceptable.
