I can`t really think of many outstandingly bad AI`s in games from my youth. Most games for NES through windows 98 had pretty horrible AI by todays standards but thats just because they were earlier versions of todays evolution of AI. They did exactly what they set out to do: those stupid slugs in Commander Keen were stupid cause they were written that way, Tails always died in Sonic 2 cause he was slower and dumb (and completely useless when controlled by another player except for getting rings in the Chaos Emerald stanges) cause they didn`t have anything for him to do really and any enemy you fought in Dune: the Battle for Arrakis used the same tactics over and over again (same with C+C and C+C: Tiberium Sun). Although, your units in C+C: Tib. Sun were dumb as **** too; planes would fly through your own defense walls and blow themselves up. Awesome

However, I do remember the AI in alot of FPS`being just plain terrible. Notably in Ghost Recon for XBOX (your own units giving you away), Halo also had some real dummies in it too (that would constantly get in the way of moving traffic). Even Unreal Tournament had morons sprinkled in it. Its not like those were written that way, they were just programmed half-assed which is a little inexcusable for some larger companies. I get what it takes to make a video game, I work in the industry, not directly with programmers but enough to see what the crazy codeing language is like. Still, a place like Bethesda Studios (Skyrim) really shouldn`t get away with putting out a game that apparently has 101 ways to die from doing **** all. Thats why you have BETA testing. Nor should Team Ninja get away for coming out with the total POS Metroid: OTher M. Goddam... that game was ****ing aweful.

Exactly what I did too.

I think the AI of your teammates in most online games is terrible. For example I was playing Tribes: Ascend and trying to pass the flag off as I only have 200ish life left and lost all my speed.

VFT (Take the flag from me!)
VFT (Take the flag from me!)
VFT (Take the flag from me!)
VFT (Take the flag from me!)
VFT (Take the flag from me!)
VFT (Take the flag from me!)

Stop in front of a heavy defender and drop the flag at his feet.

He looks at it but decides to chase after a random soldier instead.

I get hit with an MIRV.

We lost that game.

On a more serious note; an example of good AI is Mechcommander on the hardest difficulty. (The first one, second one was garbage.) Enemy mechs would take into consideration yours and their armaments and move accordingly. Alot of it was scripted but it was amazing for its time.

Ghost recon 1 had some ****ty AI. My teammates always ended up getting me killed or revealed. I like future soldier though.

Doesn't that make sense though?

Sorry, I tend to get offtopic somtimes. My point about Ghost recon 2 is that there's no 'recon' in it because you can barely stealthily kill one guy without a supressed weapon without all the other enemies jumping out of their pants.

I've played it, you just aren't supposed to be doing any shooting. Guns are loud, and the sound carries for quite a distance. Guns in movies in games sound quiet, but in reality anything larger than the .22 is fairly loud.

I get what you're saying though, if you're just trying to play the game it gets frustrating if you're getting nowhere.

You just said the same thing as before but reworded it.

Recon is short for what?

The objective is to not be seen or heard. It's to complete your mission and have nobody know you were there. Blowing off some turds head with a Bushmaster cannon isn't the name of the game. That's called Conflict: Desert Storm.
