Watch Dogs

So, anyone catch this in this year's E3 news?

It's part of Ubisofts 2012/2013 lineup along with Assassin's Creed III ( which also looks good ).

Here's a gameplay vid.

It was definitely the coolest thing in Ubisoft's line-up this year. I look forward to playing this. Hurray for original IP!

I'm so far in that I went out, doubled back, and went in from the other side.

Here's another video. It gives a bit of background information on what's happening.

That looks pretty well balanced between getting stuff done quietly and blowing things sky high.

Looks good, but I'm done supporting Ubisoft. As to the why, I can't say it better than a guy from another forum I frequent:

This looks like more "Be afraid of the Internet because boogie men can attack you with it" propaganda bull ****. It's obviously in line with the public conditioning done by mass media to get things like CISPA passed.

Same company, Ubisoft, is putting out the new Rainbow Six "Patriots" game, where they make the constitutionalists that want the laws upheld out to be domestic terrorists. Ubisoft is foreign owned and obviously has an agenda. They'll never get another dine from me.

Sure the graphics look great, and it's probably fun to play, but if it promotes ideas that are an affront to my country and it's heritage and vitality and liberty, then off they can **** with their game.
Bummer since I've always been a Rainbow Six fan but if I'm being honest they haven't put out a good R6 in the last decade anyways...

Admittedly, I haven't looked R6 up, but that does sound a bit... far-fetched...

The ignorance is strong with your buddy. That's a severely twisted version of the R6: True Patriots plot as the True Patriots are, in fact, terrorists. Unless you consider strapping bombs to civilians justifiable under certain pretense (which would raise a whole different set of questions...). Is homegrown terrorism not a potential threat? It's been an acceptable plot device for any number of movies, at least.

Regarding Watch Dogs, we've seen one trailer and one gameplay video. If he can derive not only the game's plot but also its subverted message from that he's either a genius analyst and should be working in the industry or an ignorant *** who is thrusting his own counter-agenda onto an easy target. You be the judge.

Video game studios manufacture escapism like any other entertainment company - I'd suspect more bereft of hidden agendas than people would want to believe. The main difference is they're a softer target than most as every piece of information they trickle out is inevitably posted to "news" sites with comment sections, so inexplicably angry "fans" can spew inexplicable angry hate at an entity with no means to defend itself. Be better than that.

That said, I have to go catch a train to E3 now .
