Question cant decide... 7d or 5dmkii

talking to a couple firends and for what i shoot (mostly portraits with sports and cars thrown in) theyre recomending the 7d. with the glass i have they say the 5d would suffer a lot...

currently have:
70-200 f/2.8
10-22 f/3.5-cant remember
28-135 f/3.5-5.6

will be getting
nifty fifty

what do yall think? through canons loyalty program i can pick up a 5dmkii for 1400 but the 7d is just under 1100... id most likely keep the 70-200 on the 5d if i were to get it and the 10-22 on my 30/40d...

Canon loyalty program:
  • Find an old canon, film is ok (at least I got them to accept my Rebel xt)
  • Keep an eye out on the canon website for when a refurb that you want pop up.
  • Call canon loyalty # and tell them that you want to get a camera under the canon loyalty program.
  • They will then ask for the serial number of your old camera.
  • After that you can proceed through the ordering as normal.

This is canon loyalty number: 866-443-8002

The loyalty program is phone only.

To response to OP:

I would still go with the 5D if you can ever find them in stock. I just got the 5D last week and the quality of a full frame is just amazing. Keep in mind that I haven't had much of an experience with the 7D outside of playing with them at bestbuy.

Can you share what does your friend mean by the 5D would surfer a lot if you use it with the glass that you currently have? Do you have all EF lens?

I have owned both, and for what you are shooting, the speed of the 7D will come in very handy. The files out of the 5DmkII are gorgeous, but the 7D is so much more nimble. What good are great files if you can't get the shot? Nice collection of glass!

The 28-135 and 10-22 will not work on full frame bodies, including the 5DMK2. Pretty sure your aware of it though.

How about getting to some EF glass before buying a new body?

the 28-135 is EF glass. i know the 10-22 would be REALLY soft aronud the edges but it would stay on my 30/40D anyways. the only lenses that would go on the 5d would be the 70-200 and the 50.

2sic4u: my 30d is great but suffers in low light conditions. the low light performance is what im most after. also, itd be nice to have that video function. i havent been able to take video in a long time and i miss it.

this is the wide zoom i have, btw. tamron 10-24

I personally shoot a 7D and I LOVE it. I have no real complains with the camera.

When I was looking to order a camera I had to weigh the options. Do I need to go full frame? Is it worth the extra money I'd need to spend in glass? For me, it wasn't worth it. I prefer a crop sensor camera anyway.

Not to mention, the 7D has a much better AF system and has a much higher burst rate.
