Paintball Pics - First Attempt

I took out my new to me Canon two weeks ago to get some pics of Rockin Cocks as they practiced for Chicago PSP. I have the stock lens and tried using the "action" setting, so here's a few to peek at. Let me know good/bad/ugly etc if you please

Jump to Av or full manual. I always shoot paintball in Av and I get good results with my exposure. On my 10D, it's always full manual, but the 7D I'm shooting now has much better ISO performance so Av is more practical.

Another thing, I always shoot tight when I'm doing sports.

There are a few for example. By doing that I feel like I capture more "gameface" I guess. I probably should go wider than I do for a lot of shots, but I love getting that extra expression.

I like the shots though, definitely better than the first time I shot paintball. Just get a feel for your style. Paintball photographers are all different in how they shoot and edit their photos.

I had thought about the Av mode as well, but didn't grab the camera out until the last two games. What ISO do you normally use for paintball?

I was trying to sort out the distance/zoom feel, so that's good advice. To get up close I literally had to stand next to the player. Silly stock lens. I would like to find a telephoto lens, but not sure if I am even going to be shooting much paintball or action since I'll be doing lots of baby pics in about 20 days

not bad at all... kermit speaks truth about shooting in Av mode, although what youre doing now looks pretty good. the sliding shot is nice but i almost feel too distanced from the rest of the others. zoom in a little and try to stay away from the profile shots.

shooting from over the shoulder is really cool but you do run the risk of getting shot your self. also, try laying down and getting shots from down low. they have a unique feel and you also are able to hide youself a little more.

overall, very good for your first time!

ISO 100 pretty much always when there is good light outside. As it gets later, I'll bump up to about ISO 400 just to maintain a fast shutter speed.

Congrats on the baby!

Would cropping any of these help, or just take away from the resolution?

I usually do a little minor cropping when shooting paintball. Wearing a mask makes it hard to get everything perfectly framed before you take the shot, a little bit of cropping won't hurt too bad at all.

So this might be a little better in the way of the slide photo?

Looks way better to me, it cuts a lot of the not-so-pretty background.

Good point, I barely noticed the nearly abandoned driving range behind the field
