Yup. I've noticed some of the tanks get really nasty in a hurry. I've had full Nukes and Deathheads thrown at me by some piddly little tank... after I've mined 4000 warbux, no less. Grrr.

If you find a high net worth country, you can "mine" it by failing the next level and getting sent back.

I've done this repeatly for a few levels - really kicks the cash up.

I've done the same thing for the 'shoot 5 TNT' goals. I'd rather not wait forever to finish it off if I can just surrender the next match and go back to shoot for the collection again.

I don't see the need for a tank upgrade and when things get nasty, I buy a nuke and ruin real estate

I was on a roll with the double missile shooter and scrolled over to see I had 15 baby nukes. Can't let those just sit there, can I? Ended up using those strategically to get as much from surrounding minerals as I could.

sand bomb, then mine with the drill and if it last any longer nuke the area lol

I've been using sand wedge and laser for mining - kickass - leaves the drill far behind

I've noticed that I did the same thing. The only time the drill gets used is to get to things almost right under me. Or, if there is a tank behind a really tall and steep hill, I will try to angle it so it goes through the hill in a way that has it drop right onto the tank.
