Yes, you can do it cheaper, but then how long will you be able to play new games before your system is obsolete again?
For less than 2 grand you can put a box together that will play any game for the next 3 years at least (worst case scenario).

Video cards.....might want to wait for the Direct X 10.1 video cards to come out. Here is a cheap DX 10 card for right now, but if you don't care and don't want to wait for a DX 10.1 card, get the 2nd one.

Cheap one (Really good card actually. I would buy it for myself :P)
More expensive card if you do not feel like waiting.

At a quick glance Skull gave you a nice set up there but intel processors run hot and there boards are finicky.

Intel makes the best processors. They don't run hot...I am running a P4 3.4 dual core right now with 2 fans, a 680 watt CHEAP PSU, and a thermaltake heatsink (I think) and it is running cool.

That isn't an Intel board anyways. I like AOpen boards, but they are discontinued I believe. I still have one running though :P

BTW, I hate when people call me a nerd threadstarter.

I don't think you are gonna build a laptop :P

Here are some good ones though.....DON'T GET A MAC BTW!!!

Newegg.com - ASUS G Series G1S-A1 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo T7500(2.20GHz) 15.4" Wide SXGA+ 2GB DDR2 667 160GB 5400rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT - Retail

Thats gonna be really fast.

Check out Dell XPS or Vostro. They are good laptops, and for a good price.

Laptops are a different animal. But if you are not gaming with them, usually the cheapest new one you can find will work for you no problem.

I do not use my computer for any gaming. That is a little more than I am willing to spend. Was trying to keep it about $1000.

Oh. Just browse around then. Newegg has some GREAT deals, especially if it isn't a gaming one. Again though, look into Dell. Get Vista on your laptop too BTW.
