ive got a 160 gig hard drive that has music and movies on it and some random stuff
it only has 10 gigs left on it space wise

plus theres a 250 gig harddrive in the computer that ive got room to put stuff on

the only problem i have with the sansa is that it seems the highest they sell it in is 8 gig and then with a card for it its 10 gigs

i'd rather pay $250 or so and get a 30 gig mp3 player with a bigger screen

either way anything 30 gigs and up would be good

Am I the only one with a 128mb player still and doesnt feel the need for one that is bigger? I can only listen to so much music at a time...

Plus, any longer, and I'll be in a car.. with a CD player.

My 20 gig has 9 gigs left. I use it in the car almost exclusively, and don't have to deal with CD's.

Azz,

I gotta be honest, i was in your camp not too long ago.(and I've been using mp3 devices since I bought the first-ever-made one years ago..and the whoping 64 meg upgraded version at that!) I honestly didn't mind using a smaller cap player and updating it more frequently. I found that if you chose your software wisely, this wasn't a big deal.

However, a few things finally swayed my opinion:

1) My taste in music got more and more scattered.
2) More frequent trips into our NY office made watching video more useful. (train)
3) I've pretty much given up on CD's....physical storage was getting out of hand.

recently I even broke my own cardinal rule which I'd been adhering to for YEARS....I finally purchased a hard-drive based unit. I just KNOW this is going to bite me in the ass sooner or later!

Also, I didn't notice this mentioned in this thread, Apple is rumored to release completely new iPods today. The presentation is happening right now (started 10am pdt), so I would stay tuned to that before I'd go out and buy anything.

Here's a quick summery of the whole thing:

iPod Shuffle ($79) - got new colors
iPod Nano ($149, $199) - wider, thinner, plays videos, just like normal ipod, 4gig and 8gig sizes
iPod Classic ($249, $349) - slimmer, 80gig and 160gig sizes
iPod Touch ($299, $399) - touchscreen ipod just like iPhone but without the phone part, bunch of new features, 8gig and 16gig sizes
iPhone ($399) - lowered price, only the 8gig model survives

there's also a new version of iTunes out that lets you make custom ringtones (for $0.99) from a selection of iTMS songs.

For more details (like battery life, etc) I'm sure you can visit the apple site and check out all the new stuff.

Yea, there's been big talk about it on the financial shows since this morning. I just watched job's keynote address....didn't catch anything about the iPod though....granted I just had it on in the background. Will have to watch it in detail later.

Or just save tons of money and buy last gen ipods..

How do people afford to buy these things with each generation? (says the guy with the 4yo $30 MP3 player)
