Iīve ditched semi play in paintball so I have been getting the urge to do the same on my camera gear.
Iīm selling my zoom lenses in favor of prime lenses.
I have a 17-50 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 zooms now, that will pay for these, so I wonīt be puttin any money in.
Since I donīt do much commercial shooting like weddings where you have to have a zoom, I rather shoot with smaller faster lenses.
This is roughly the future setup:
35mm 2 (have)
I havenīt decided if I want canon or sigma, and Iīm wondering if I get by with no wide angle (I have a crop camera) or will I have to add a Samyang 14mm to the mix.
Any opinions on lenses appreciated, especially those who have used both Sigma and canon 50mm and 24mm
I wonīt go all "stock class" meaning manual, but rather fast af primes, they seem to fit my shooting style best for now.
I don't shoot canon but always stick to the brand lenses. They'll hold their value better and in my experience, are better quality.
I just ordered a 50mm 1.4 as an upgrade from the cheaper, plasticy 1.8. Since you already have a 35, that's going to give you as close to a standard lens as I believe you'll get, I'd go either 50 (which would be equivalent to an an 80mm on a 1.6 crop) or 85 (136 equivalent).
Also, I wouldn't consider weddings commercial photography.
Personally I would strongly suggest keeping the 70-200 if you do anything sports or action related. Primes are sweet if you know which you want for something, and I go for primes most of the time, but at times a zoom just works better.
Keep the 70 200..... This is the one and only time I'll say keep the zoom.
I shoot mostly with primes, but I LOOOOOVEEEEEE my 70-200 f2.8.....I use that lens all the time. Definitely keep that around if you can.
Got a sigma 20 1.8 and gave the 35 in trade cause they gave such a good price.
And just sold the 17-50 for a pretty good price.
Going to pic up a 50mm 1.4 tomorrow and see if I miss the 35/2 enough to buy a new one or a sigma 30 1.4.
The 20 feels great but maybe itīs too wide for streetwork, or I need to work on getting closer.
I like the 70-200, but Iīve shot maybe 200 pics with it in two years.
So not really my thing. I donīt shoot pb or other sports, cause I love playing too much to waste a day in field for shooting pics.
If I get a decent price, Iīll sell it but if not, Iīll keep it around.
