I had a T3....had it for a week then had the funds to upgrade to the T2i.....LOVE my t2i.
Yes there are better Canon bodies out there but for my "First" DSLR it is awesome. Currently trying to get more lenses...I have my Kit (18-55) a Canon 28-90 and a Tamron 22-200 (its ok)
Trying to sell off/trade my Xbox360 for lens money

Also i Got a grip for my T2i....Feels like a beast now.

Battery grips are the bomb. My XTi came with one when I bought it used I picked up 2 more batteries and a SD-CF card adapter and now I can shoot for days on end without worrying about lack of battery power OR lack of storage. My current lenses are the kit 18-55 non IS which I barely use, 50mm 1.8 which is my standard prime walk around lens, a 28-105 USM II that is my walk around zoom lens and then a 70-210 F4 that I use for applications where I need the extra reach (air shows, wildlife photography, it's an awesome macro lens too).

My advice would be to ditch the kit lens and instead hunt for a used 28-105 USM II as a walk around zoom. Second lens I recommend to anyone that's shooting Canon is a 50mm 1.8 or a 1.4 if you've got the $400 or so to burn either way is amazing the 1.4 gives you a couple stops more power but other than that it's identical to the 1.8. I know Mike Deep will massacre me for this but I LOVE my 70-210 F4 granted not the fastest autofocus on the planet and can be a little soft wide open but if you stop it down even a 1/3 of a step you get some great narrow depth of field shots. Best useage outdoors for it is around F8 where's it's exceptional and not to mention you can find them on ebay for $125 or so all day.

A 1.4 isn't a full stop down form a 1.8. It's like 2/3rds of a stop. But I use a 50 1.4 and love it.

I was tired when I typed that post you're completely correct a full stop would be a 0.8 which isn't even made and would probably be useless anyways lol. I still stand by my statement 1.8 if you're on a budget 1.4 if you have the money to burn. Personally I've never seen a picture shot with a 1.4 that made me want to rush out and upgrade. The only reason I might even consider is that under extreme zooms in editing the bokeh in the 1.8 has a weird shape whereas in the 1.4 or 1.2L it's more rounded but then again that's more splitting hairs than anything. At the end of the day a 50mm is just a great lens to have in the gear bag no matter where in the range you've bought into.

Best camera and lens you can have is which ever one you've already got. Now go out and take us some pictures.

A D70 is pretty old for a DSLR, I probably would've sent him to the D40 at the same price point just because it's a bit newer. That said, he'll have cheaper options for good lenses.

He never said (I don't think) what he's USING it for. But assuming it's action shots of paintball, the 1/500 flash sync of the D70 will serve him well.

OP, here's a sleeper lens suggestions: the Nkkor AF-D 70-210mm zoom. The "D" (not just AF) version can be had for under $200 and was INSANELY fast focusing. Great for tracking action...much, much faster than the budget 55-200mm VR and also far better built.

Also, kinda self-serving, but here's a link to my BF lens sale...all of these are killer deals on as-new lenses which would work fine with the D70.

The 70-210 is a great lens and can be had for a preset decent price.

My favorite DX lens is the 18-200 VR, but its not cheap for a DX and is a 3.5-5.6. The 50 1.8 is a great lens at a great price. I, prefer the metal 1.4, but its like 4x the price.
