Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 II Thoughts?

Looking for peoples thoughts on the Sigma lens. I will be using it on a Nikon D7000 and mostly for capturing my 3yr old son. Also, what would be a fair price to pay used? Thanks for your time

I used a Sigma 70-300 on my D50 for a while, was a decent lens for cheap, took a lot of nice pics, upgraded to a tameron 28-300 for ease of use.

I used the canon version, same lens though.

The zoom ring spins backwards, it's not as heavy, and it isn't quite as solid as the L lens that I have now, but it's half the price.

Super nice lens for the money. I'd suggest it if you want a fast zoom.

If the lens zoomed "backwards" on your Canon then it would be forward for Nikon

I have a Sigma fixed 400mm and it's a great lens. Really well put together.

I really appreciate everyones input. Would $600 be a fair price for one that is used but like new condition?

Sigma lenses and their customer support are top notch.
That lens in particular is a great lens.
Well worth $600.00

Not to threadjack but has anyone used the Tamron version of this lens? it's a 70-200m image stabilized F2.8. I've been looking at it as it's about 1/3 the price of the 70-200 2.8L USM IS lens

I think the 50mm Macro lens I have is a Tamron and the build quality on that is also very nice. I will check on that tonight as I have to take a picture of a knife guard that I've been shaping.

Not a problem. If there is a better alternative, I would love to hear about it.
