Has Assassins Creed "Jumped the Shark"?

Now this isn't huge news or even late and breaking so I am sure most of you know already that the next installment of AC will feature Pirates. Now each AC game has followed a period in time and been pretty cool but to jump from the Revolutionary War to Pirates?

Don't get me wrong I have nothing against Pirates it just seems like they are out of ideas and decided to take the easy way out.

So thoughts. . . Has AC Jumped the Shark?

I was most thrown off by the timing. AC3 wasn't released very long ago, so (while I know this isn't the case) it gives the impression that this one was a little rushed.

I have a theory that since the sailing aspect/sea battles were so well received, they wanted to capitalize on that success. What better way to do that than with a Pirate themed game, following Connor's grandpa since you already know the family history.

Any game that muddles around to long in yearly releases will fade into mediocraty before too long.

cod, guitar hero, tony hawks… the list goes on.

Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: Is this real, or is this just a ride? I'm cuious if they even touch on Connors family. With the ending, they can jump almost anywhere they like.

Skibbo I think nailed it with why they are doing pirates. Ships offer so many different assassination styles, and with how well the big battles were recieved, why go away from it?

Part of me thinks a giant jump back would be the best. Going to Roman empire etc, but they exhausted two of the best places early on. Rome and Middle east. Going forward from the American Revolution? The tech takes away so much of the fun fast paced stuff.

It does seem like this is coming out early, but they've got the boat in place, which would save on development time.

Congrats if you read my rambling.

If they can keep the story interesting, I think they could succeed. But, if the yearly releases aren't refined and start becoming COD, you have a point. It's too early to tell for that, at least until release.

I read the novel for assassins creed 3, 'forsaken'. It's told through the point of connors father, haytham, and although he is a templar it is revealed in the book his father, our neew protagonist was an assassin, but a close friend of Haythams converted him

his seems pretty neat, I got number three one day after it was released [can't handle those lines]. While I loved assassins creed three I feel that ubisoft hasn't really done a good job with the desmond plotline, especially in the end of ac3 when you-know-what happens. I'm wondering who our new protagonist will be, and how he will be tied into the assassins. I think the reason they're doing this is so they can get to work on the new 'generation'. THe next game will probably run very simimliar to AC 3, but will still have improvements. I would love to see an assassins creed take place in feudal japan....and maybe one in modern times, but that would still be hard with guns and all..

Assassins creed 1 was just TERRIBLE. It had good fundamental ideas but they focoused on building the cities so much that the overall gameplay was terrible. It was impossible to escape the guards...fighting mechanics were pretty bad....I'm glad I sold that game.
