So bumping this up again.
Now with the haswells out, is the general consensus to go with an unlocked i7/i5?

Unless you're doing something particularly demanding, you probably don't even need something unlocked. I just built a hackintosh based on a 3.5 ghz i7 (I went for the i7 vs the i5 for HD video editing and future-proofing), and it is more than I'll need for some time. Pair that with some 1600 mhz ram, and good mobo, throw in your existing hardware, and you're in business.

Well now onto coolers.

Does the LGA1150 socket use the same cooler as the 1155? I'm looking around for a 1150 cooler and am finding nothing.

Yep, caused me to drop all my plans and go into a mini itx build.

Looking at this mobo
Newegg.com - ASUS MAXIMUS VI IMPACT LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard

along with a 4770k haswel processor.
16gig ram
256 SSD
slot loading DVD
and probaly drop in my 570 card until I can bump up to a 780 when the 800 series comes out, would love a titan but cant really scratch a grand for one, MABEY one day it will happen.
I'm right at about 1100 or so for all this, only thing not in the build yet is a GPU.

I no longer plan on running 2 cards, prefer to just run one good card, and I'd probably never upgrade to 4 chips of ram, so why bother going any bigger.

Perhaps wait till the water cooled case comes out even

Speaking of cards, does anyone have an old gtx680 or 780 card they could offer for sale if they're about to upgrade cards?

Welp just dropped a grand on my new pc.
Mini ITX factor this time, should be fun.

Guess I may take my old graphic card, case and PSU and drop a few amd parts in it, just priced another mobo, 6 core amd processor and 8gig of ram for 300, make a living room computer to run steam games with a controller when I just want to play cheap games.

Late to the discussion..

That's a very nice looking case. I've been giving serious thought to building a new desktop and I did consider a mini ITX for a while but never gave it much thought. I'm not sure about the 500w integrated PSU but the fact that it can fit a TITAN GPU in it sounds solid because any other GPU should be a guaranteed fit.

Let us know how it goes! I'm very much interested.

I'd potentially get one of those Hadron cases if it wasn't for that PSU. I'd be nervous about it going kaput and not being able to use the computer until I either got a new one somehow (send just the PSU?) or getting a new case.
