Raspberry Pi

Alright MCB.

I'm almost set on picking one of these up. But I'm not 100% certain if I really want to. Yes, I've been doing my homework on it, I would be buying the Pi B, I have lots of ideas about what I might do with it. I'm just not totally sure.

So, MCB, you get to make the decision for me. Should I buy it?

I too have been thinking of getting one also. I first saw a Pi when I was on Kickstarter last year and saw somebody designing a cover for it.

I would buy one. At least if you don't want it/use it you could always sell it. A lot of people are interested in getting one. Hell they are pretty cheap.

I have one for watching xbmc on the tv. it works fairly well. they need to do some more work on the OS to seed it up though.

It takes a while to navigate when it has to spend 10+ seconds to search and download the text info for the menus. i have no idea why that is a slow process.

It does do what it is supposed to do though.

I got mine out of the states from an online retailer. it was actually cheaper than buying from the uk.

I'm torn between the Pi and Arduino platforms because they have different strengths depending on the project. They're both cheap enough to where you can buy both without much thought.

I think it's a neat project but unless you have a specific need that it covers I'd pass for now. I personally use an Asus eeebox pc running Openelec / XBMC. Costs a bit more but more functional for me. The biggest benefit... wireless...

The only wires running to my pi are a power cord and hdmi. everything else is over wifi on a $5 stick. you only need a keyboard and mouse temporarily for set up if running xbmc. i use my tablets and or phone as a remote.

Thanks for the input guys. For right now, I need to be more active, so the last thing I need is another computer project, so I figured I'd get something paintball related, get my *** out in the field more

I say for $35 just do it. It's a cheap project and I think everyone here has had a more expensive and less useful impulse buy in their life.

Anyone else still messing with these?
Just picked up a Pi B to put together a little emulator and mount it all in one with a spare monitor I have.
