INIT ROM Computer Error

I'm having some problems getting my computer to boot up properly. I've never had the INIT ROM error until today. But first..

I've been in the process of setting up a home network and getting our phone lines fixed. I got the network running and a tech came out today to fix the line. Internet works, problem solved, but now my computer won't boot up. I don't know if this has anything to do with the new router, modem, or network changes but I thought I'd throw that out there.

When the computer boots it gets stuck at the ASUS Rampage Formula logo. Keyboard and mouse do not work so I can't access the BIOS or anything else. After about ten minutes it finally makes it past ASUS screen and I am left with a black screen. After five minutes of waiting I am finally taken to the Windows 7 log-in screen and the mouse and keyboard now work. Windows finally boots up but it takes several minutes to get to my desktop. EVERYTHING is running extremely slow now. It takes minutes to open a browser, file, or program. Just to add.. the computer has been working fine all day until I turned it off for the ISP guy. Booted it up after he left and all this happened.

This is the first time I've ever gotten a INIT ROM error and I'd like to head this off before it gets worse. Any suggestions?

Motherboard: Asus Rampage Formula
OS: Win7

have you tried swapping it out with known good ram?

sometimes bad RAM can do funky things

That tends to happen when a device is plugged in while booting it tries to boot to the USB based device also seen it happen when the DVD drive died.

Haven't changed out the RAM yet. I can get it to run smoothly after the boot up so I was going to wait and check if the CMOS battery needs to be replaced. Will put that on my to-do list though.

dead CMOS battery would cause you to get a warning to set the clock everytime you booted it up

I found someone having a similar problem caused by a broken RAID array. Any possibility you're using RAID?

I think I found the problem. The ipod connected to the PC was corrupted so I removed it before boot up. The PC now boots up just fine.

i have had similar issues when booting up with an external hard drive installed. but that was awhile ago.. i figured it wasnt such a common thing anymore

glad it was cheaper than having to buy new ram
