If people are dumb enough to pay a jacked up price just to have it a little earlier then they deserve to be parted with their money. It's a luxury item not a necessity...

And you don't have to put much down to tie your name to one. ^^

I don't worry about picking something up that exact day it shows up for this reason.

I guess they were doing them numerically and that would have been my spot in line. Darn, I figured that I would've just been after whoever was in line in front of me when I showed up if I went at launch night.
I had the same problem at a midnight launch at gamestop. They kept trying to tell us to line up by number, but nobody was listening. I wasn't about to try to jump to the front of the line, so I just waited in the spot that I started in. It was fun, but I think that the number system is silly. That and they waited till the line was several hundred people long before they tried to get it in order.

At my store, Walmart, we handed out tickets only to those people that were there to obtain a non pre order. If you got a number, you had to stay in line, you could hand the ticket to a buddy but if that was lost or you stepped out of line and had no place holder you went to the end. We informed everyone that came after all of allotment was accounted for that they could stand in line and roll the dice hoping someone lost a #, stepped out of line or just no longer wanted to wait. Pre order peeps could come in when they wanted but had a separate line. Went smooth.

I saw this work effectively once at my gamestop. After that it's always been odd.
  • Show up whenever they start the finalizing of pre-orders that night
  • if you have not yet paid off the order, do so at the counter and you get a finalized receipt
  • if you have paid it off prior, turn your old receipt in for a finalized version for the night
  • party ensues
  • midnight comes, people line up according to the number on the receipt
  • your receipt is checked at a designated station
  • at the other end of said station you receive your preorder item

This was the way it went for the battlefield 3 launch night. I have to admit that was fun. A local taco truck came by and was doing food orders, they had a dj and rented a game trailer for the actual game being distributed that night.

Trailer was cool, had couches and lounge areas for watching/playing on different consoles and gaming PCs. They went all out to make every type of player comfortable. I haven't seen a local launch night that organized since then.

Wow, I wish that the mass effect 3 launch was as fun as that! All I had was a bunch of people standing in like talking about the game. It was fun, but there were no food trucks, or trailers, or djs.

i tried out a ps4 at target.

controller is a lot better than ps3. the ridege of the thumb sticks really help keep your thumbs on them.

i like the trigger buttons too. they are now concave instead of idiot convex. my only gripe is their rotational axle is a little too close to the button, your finger really has to be on the lower regions to feel like they are being pressed with natural pressure.

a game demo shouldn't take this long to load though...

I always play with trigger shoes on the lower shoulder buttons, stock sucks and just feels weird.
