uh its a dual chip... and possibly dual PCB... they always tend to be expensive due to the fact very few people buy them (they exist for GPU arms race one-ups).

basically, they needed to beat the new GTX titan black, but were not capable of doing it with their existing hardware just yet, so they doubled down on chips (as both sides have done several times now).

you want to see expensive, look up nvidia quadro cards. specifically their 12gb model.

$5k for that card

yea, but those are workstation cards. ATI makes them too

I do think it's awesome and hilarious they equipped this 295X2 with built-in, out of the box closed-circuit water-cooling. basically necessary at this point with a thermal nightmare like that (290X's run very hot and this card is two of them built into one unit).

edit: also just found out, Nvidia is going to do much the same thing with their own dual-GPU card coming down the line. what a waste of resources lol

edit again: and it's apparently the GTX Titan Z. price somewhere around $3000... I guess that blows this out of the water for high cost

1500 looks about on par, Nvidia GTX690's were still going for a grand last I checked for even less video memory, this one even has built in water cooling and 8gigs of memory.

But then again, that card is more than I paid for my whole computer and will be obsolete in a year or two...pass.

I'm finding computer stuff hard to find a happy balance between price and preformance. Sure you can get the best of the best top of the line, but you'll still need to buy an upgrade eventually anyway.

The other thing to keep in mind is that it only has 4GB of VRAM, not the advertised 8.

In dual GPU configurations, the ram is run in parallel, not series if that make sense. So you only get half of the advertised as actual usable VRAM.

I'd hope by 8gig of vram they mean 8 per card, if not that's some pretty sketchy advertizing there, I figured with a titan's 6gigs they'd try to outdo them with 8.

Ok yea, watched a video on it, it is 4 per card, that's somewhat lame actually.
