| Fich! Sala! Wada! | Unwanted "Run" shortcut... help?
So I've got a user's Dell D830 sitting in front of me. Everytime I click on Run I get a dialogue box pop up asking me to put a shortcut on the desktop. When I click on that shortcut, nothing happens. I've used both of the left click buttons and they both do the same. Anybody seen this before? It was the last thing I needed to get done on her laptop (she's a pro cheerleader - Toronto Argos ) and it's bugging me. She'll be coming back later and I'm having a hell of a time finding anything about this being a problem.

Bueller? Anyone got any ideas? Would it be something as simple as having to reassign a button?

OK, since she's a professional cheerleader I'm going to give you the best advice possible: Turn up the thermostat in your work area as high as it will go. When she gets there tell her you had a slight hangup and you'll be just a little longer but she's welcome to have a seat by your desk while you work. Sooner or later the heat will get the better of her, she'll start to jettison clothing and you'll have the makings of a Penthouse Forum letter.... " Dear Penthouse, I've read these letters for so long and always thought they were BS and nothing like that would ever happen to me. Well I just have to tell you about the time........" Wish I could help with the computer problem. I googled it with no results. Perhaps look on the Dell support site...

This is pretty darn simplistic of me, but go to start menu properties, disable the run dialog box, back all the way out, and then re-enable it? Or just disable it and forget about it. What are the odds she uses that dialog anyway? I'd still turn the heat way up anyway, just in case... |

I'm with Lrrpie on this one. There are a few ways to enable/disable the run prompt, but removing it, rebooting, and re-enabling seems like a good starting point. A Cheerleader with access to the "run" prompt? If I were you, I'd be waiting for Ashton Kushner to jump out any second now...
