Video Card Upgrade time: recommendations

Hi guys,

Its been a while since I have upgraded my pc video card.
Since I need a new card in order to play MOH:Airborne, I am in the market again. (My Laptop (XPS M1330) should be able to handle it, but it's too choppy.)

My Desktop specs are:
- 3.2 GHz P4
- 2GB RDRAM (paired)
- I think its a Gigabyte board
- current card is a geforce4 ti 4500

I will have to dig in to see if I have a PCIe slot. I think I do.
I typically play CS/DOD/etc. type games.

Recommendations?

if you want cheap a 6800 XXX overclocked 256mb should be enough, cehap ebay fodder, I run these in SLI configuration.

if you want modern I would only go with an 8800 gtx in 320 or 640mb config. (250+)

Thanks incynr8,

I was thinking about the SLI config as an option. Would have to check Mogo config, etc. I suppose.

you need sli ready Mobo with two pci-e slots, SLI ready memory (approved list best).
most SLI rigs are newer 775 boards.

There are obviously AMD and ATI options as well. I listed NIVIDA and Intel.
I wouldn't buy much other than the 8600/8800 series new these days.

Thanks, help very appreciated. I am just looking to tie me over the winter and such, so I will probably lean towards the 8800 with a single config.

8800 even at 320mb likely outruns my 6800s in almost all instances. I would get a smoking single card before SLI of two 'older' ones, as your powersupply is also spared the extra pci-e connector and load.

If you are looking for a decent graphics card at a reasonable price I got a PNY GeForce 7300GT. It is a pci express card.I used for about a week before I got my N7800 GT Dual card. It's still in the box with everything.Think I paid $135 for it last year... I'll sell it for $50 if your interested

With the onset of the nvidia 8800GT debut, I was able to pickup a eVGA 8600GTS 512 for cheap.

Thanks for assistance.
