Okay - so I have my manual for the CCM markers completed. I am considering this Version 1.0. If I do minor revamps - I would then go to V 1.1? If I do a major change - I would go to V 2.0? How would you do this to keep it consistent with software? TF |

That sounds about right to me. Also, if you change the revamp, it'd be V 1.1.1

Your revision number scheme is correct. 1.x to 2.x for major changes 2.1 to 2.2 for minor changes 2.2 to 2.2.1 for minor bug fixes As for version control with software, it all depends. There is a lot of software to do it, all purpose specific. A lot of the big gui web design programs will keep version history. For something like what you put together, standard practice would be to keep a small "change history" at the top of the document, something like. 2.0.1 Minor spelling / grammar corrections. 2.0 Improved layout Added table of contents 1.1 Added section for marker xyz 1.0 Initial release

or be like Microsoft and ignore version 1 & 2 and just jump to Version 3.1. Add stuff? Make it 3.1.1 and give it purpose like "For Experienced Users" when you are ready for Version 4: Hire an old rock band for your theme song because that's all that is going to be good for this version. Version 5 is the best after the second update. Version 6 is crap again and then you tell everyone you are already making Version 7 |
