Window's S***'s

That right the title says it all. So for like the 4th time in a year my machine has s**t the bed. About a week and a half ago I changed the CMOS battery and then could not load windows. I went into the CMOS set up, made sure everything was assigned properly and yet still no luck. Brought it in to a local reputable shop and they could not figure out the issue. Vapped the drive and reinstalled windows. Got the machine home, worked for 2 days and now I am getting a can not load windows, Windows\system32\config\system corrupt or missing.
I just can't win. Computers are my bain yet I need them. They just love torturing me.

Sounds like you have some hardware failing, not the OS.

You run Memtest86? Also try testing the leads of the power supply with a volt meter to make sure you have the right voltage going to drives, should be pretty close to 12v and 5v.

Voltage swings can lead to memory going bad, and that can lead to corrupt files.

Then what are you removing / altering / installing?

Something is wrong, Windows doesn't just up and destroy itself, as much as some would like to believe.

I changed the CMOS battery and that is when the can not find OS issue started. After that was rectified I made no changes. I did not add/remove any hardware or software. I did not even have a chance to start reloading the programs that were installed before. I was out of commision for a few days( all 4 wisdom teeth removed), got home from work Sunday and corrupt system config file.

Sounds like a memory / drive issue to me. You test the ram in another machine? One stick at a time?

Oh, and you arent using any IDE drivers are you? I had some huge issues with nvidia IDE drivers which were supposed to be better than the reference MS ones.

I didn't run the tests they were done at a shop. A good shop not a hack place like BB or CC. Place has been in business for about 10-12 years and is highly recomended in the area.

If I was nearby i would come over and look at it... but alas....

I would still run memtest86 from a boot disk, and see if it comes up with errors. I would do this after it has been sitting on for a while. You dont have this thing next to a heater vent do you? (I assume most know better, but I always ask)
