Need to erase my hard drive, suggestions?

I've tried several programs, trying to get them on to a boot CD and a flash drive but I haven't had any luck. The closest I've gotten is with Killdisk on a flash drive but when I try to use it all it does is freeze up when it tries to load in dos. Any suggestions? Keep in mind I can't install anything as that part of my computer is screwed up too, I'm past due for an XP re-install.

Google "ultimate boot disk" should do all you want and more.

If you put the CPU on top of a running microwave and break the glass on the door im pretty sure will do it........lemme know how that works out for ya

Does the drive work? i.e. are you replacing it cause it's broke? or want to wipe cause your giving it away? Are you sure it's the drive that's screwed up? Instability when trying to boot from a cd/disc makes me think something else is the culprit....

I'd try VDub's suggestion of UBCD: Ultimate Boot CD - Overview
(Do you have another machine to burn the CD with?)

I can ask my roommate to burn a CD for me, only thing is he has a mac if that matters.

I'm wondering the same as DarkStar... is there something actually *wrong* with the drive that makes you want to wipe it? If you're just getting a new one and you're worried about the data safety of the old drive, just take a strong magnet to it.
