Ripping and converting video question...

Ok so my technical knowledge in this area is nonexistent and my Google-Fu is weak so I turn to you MCB...

I need to know if there is a way to rip a flash video that is embedded in a website and convert it into a format compatible with my iPod. Any assistance you guys can offer will be much appreciated.

Fan of EMR
Might try this one, I've had mediocre luck with it.

Real Player 11 (available now in Beta form) provides a handy "download" option for most embedded video formats (well, any formats that Real Player recognizes). While I've not been a huge fan of Real in the past (the whole "messages center" and "hey, I'm going to take over all multimedia functions on your computer" attitude it has bugs me), but 11 is actually pretty nice.

One of the plus-sides of flash is security (so I've heard), so you might not be able to get the source video, but perhaps you can fraps it and go from there???

I dunno, I'm drunk.

Good luck.

If you're using a browser such as Safari, you can open up the activity monitor and it will show you the address of the FLV file you want to get. Double-click on that and it will download the file to your disk.
Once you have the file you can use any of the FLV to MP4 converters to make the video compatible with your iPod. If you're using OS X, you can get iSquint which is free and does a good job of converting files.

open the harvested flv from quicktime using perian Perian - The swiss-army knife of QuickTime® components

export from qt as an ipod video

if the flash content is not an flv video file but a swf with embedded content,
then you should use a screen capture to video tool

on the mac I use Ambrosiasoft Snapzpro

If you use Firefox, you can download one of many free "Download Helpers".

When you see the Flash video, you click a certain button, and it places the FLV file on your desktop.

(NOTE: You don't actually need a special program though. When you watch the flash video, your computer automatically saves a version on your temporary internet folder, though its tricky to find).

Then download a program called "SUPER CONVERTER". It can convert that FLV into any format, including the oddball format used on the IPOD "MP4".

I do this all the time for my IPOD, and its pretty easy with the above free programs.
