I couldn't get on WFC last night either. Perhaps they didn't anticipate this kind of server load.

I grade-A'd the last of the 50cc so I'm learning the bikes on 100cc now. I really don't like how squirrley the handling is and,for some reason, the top speed is lower than the karts (unless you're wheelie-ing). This makes cornering more important but you have less control to do it with AND you can't get gold sparks... I don't like the bikes so far but maybe I just don't "get it" yet.

I unlocked Rosalina and great Zeus' beard that star thing is annoying! Yoshi on a bike seems much better than Yoshi in a kart but I don't like Toad, Rosalina, Wario or Peach's bikes. I haven't tried Boo's but who knows. Wario's chopper, you would think, would be a good bike but it's just a huge, clunky pig. That is somewhat expected and perhaps it would be OK if it had a high top speed but... it doesn't.

The principal complaint I have against the bikes is the wheelie thing. It's the bike's only advantage but the steering is so squirrley that it's almost useless. Moreover, you need an upward jerk to engage it and this almost always disturbs your steering. If you don't pay attention enough and engage it when you don't want -such as while cornering- it's Mr. Wall for you. Again, perhaps I'll get the feel down but at this point I don't think the bikes are as nice as the karts.

The game is still pretty frustrating at how communist it is. I hate blue shells... unless someone else is in the lead.

I also think the steering is very well set up. My in-laws got the game and my wife and I went over and played a while learning the game. I went straight for Yoshi-always have-and liked the specs that the mach bike had. on the 64 circuit my wife won every race as did I, but I did it by 20 seconds better than her (peach in the dragster). She was in first most of the race, but not ahead of 2nd by much. The top speed of the dragster (whatever the name is) is higher than the bike, but I normally ended up was ahead of 2nd.

The game is very fun though and I can see a lot of time being spent on it. She doesn't play games very often, but I'm glad that this one is fun for her.

Single player is awful, I wish I could just buy the unlockable karts and characters(or unlock them playing online). Any time you get a lead, the computer starts nailing you with red and blue shells, especially when you're making a jump over lava or water. There's been a few times I almost threw the wheel accross the room.

And to add, I've had my best times with Luigi in the Super Blooper kart. Also, I haven't been able to get online either. Error 61010 is a crashed server. support.nintendo.com says it's because everyone is buying the game and flooding wifi.

FYI, the first Tournament started yesterday. It isn't exactly what I expected a "tournament" to be, but it is interesting none the less. Also, I'm pretty sure I have been unlocking characters and carts by playing online. I'm positive at least some were a result of the # of races I've won on WFC.

I still get my fastest times on the bikes, I guess I just don't get the karts...

What is the deal with Nintendo underestimating demand? First, Wiis are hard to find at retail shops and are still selling above retail online. Now, they don't provide enough server bandwidth to let us all play Mario kart online without occasional failures. If I didn't love their product, I'd be pissed.

I know I am kinda bringing back up a dead thread but I bought a wii last week and am having a bast with it.

I am getting mario kart this week. I am getting it after I finish most of my finals. If I get it before then, I meant skip the studying.

I still havent set up the internet yet on my wii. Do I need the internet to play it? Or can I play SP?

Playing by myself with my wii has kept me busy for many years.

Sorry had to say it.

I guess I gotta get that wireless setup.
