Need Help Choosing Internet Package

Well, I current don't have access to the internet at home. The only time I get a chance to get on, is when I'm at work....like now. Which has worked out pretty good lately...though I miss XBOX Live lol.

With that in mind, I plan on playing XBOX Live regularly, like CoD4, and such. And I need a decent connection. Though I've been looking at Qwest, in particular for internet service. I've tried a couple others, but have had small problems with each. Anyways, I'm having troubles finding which speed would be best, as they have 4 different plans, and I would rather avoid getting the highest, because I think it's overkill.

But here's the plans:

Fast $34 /month

Popular with families to download music, send photos and complete schoolwork.

Connection speeds up to 1.5Mbps
* Promotional price for first 12 months. Thereafter, pay the standard rate, which is currently $44.99/mo.

Faster $42 /month

Great for people who work at home or download large files.

Connection speeds up to 7Mbps

Modem Special:
Get a FREE modem ($60 value) or our wireless-ready modem for only $40 (reg. $100) See Details
* Promotional price for first 12 months. Thereafter, pay the standard rate, which is currently $54.99/mo.

Fastest $52 /month

The perfect speed to watch a favorite movie online, make crisp video calls or dominate in the hottest game.

Connection speeds up to 12Mbps

Modem Special:
Get a FREE modem ($100 value) See Details
* Promotional price for first 12 months. Thereafter, pay the standard rate, which is currently $64.99/mo.

BeyondFast $104 /month

The speed that can handle virtually any Internet application—and more than one at a time.

Connection speeds up to 20Mbps

Modem Special:
Get a FREE modem ($100 value) See Details
* Promotional price for first 12 months. Thereafter, pay the standard rate, which is currently $114.99/mo.

My problem is, I don't have the greatest job, and I'm able to have a little extra left over at the end of the month, after paying the bills. Though if I were to get the internet at home, then that amount is of course going to be lower. I just want to know what the best bang for your buck deal is. Considering talking to a lot of the people from companies on the phone confuse the hell out of me.

Hopefully someone can help me out!!!

None of those speeds mean anything w/o an upload speed. Looks like they are all DL speeds which are rather useless without decent ups.

I would probably go for the 50/mo as it is. Then the 40. The slow one is useless and the uber fast one is not needed

i would go for the 7 mbit connection. if its cable, not normal dsl, then the u/l speed will proabably suck. you probably arent going to find a server that can 20mb/s out, unless you have a really good torrent or something
just my humble opinion

There are too many variables that affect the speed you actually experience so it's not worth paying more than the mid-range price. If it's cable plan on it being about 20% of the advertised speed between 3pm and 11pm. High speed internet in some areas is awesome but in many areas with an aging network structure or old cable lines you do not get your money's worth.
