I've got an HP Movie Writer (external dvd burner) which I absolutely LOVE, the only problem is that our VCR is ancient...so the Movie Writer doesn't always like the fact that it can't completely control the vcr.

We got one of those (a2nd gen one), and it beats the heck out of a VCR. You can do so many things, but they arent, or werent, all that hot as a DVD movie player.
