| I'm guessing the tech did one of two things (both of which my cable company tech friends have done) 1. Set the password to your email/cable account password. (Which you should have somewhere.) 2. Set the password to your email address. Here's an idea: 1. Which cable company is this? 2. Go to the cable company's website. See if you can find their support page, most comapanies allow you to set up your own gear, so you'll probably find that information on their site. 3. Read it. If it doesn't look too difficult, PRINT THE INSTRUCTIONS OUT!!! or save a copy locally. Hard reset the router and do it yourself. Bingo-bango! Most cable companies don't mind some port forwarding, I know Cable One doesn't. If you do call them just say you need to get to the configuration, but don't be specific as to why. They have to allow that, how else would you set up your WiFi, VPN pass through, IP addressing or other junk. Saves a possible lecture on stuff you really don't care about in the first place.

| C4 Founding Member | Look into Port 'Triggering' if the router has the capability (my last router was a Netgear and it did). It's a bit more secure because the ports are only opened when the traffic is initiated from the 'inside'. That way they ports aren't open all the time, they're only open when you need them. |

| The cable company we're speaking of is Charter, which by in large I am not impressed with. I looked on their site and couldn't find anything stating how to set the modem up or the settings they use. I tried their "online support chat" but the representative had no idea what I was talking about and just sent me in circles. Therefore, I will call Charter tomorrow and see what they have to say. I will post an update soon afterward. Thanks for all the help guys

| Since it's Charter, it's DHCP all the way. Just perform a hard reset of the router by holding down the little reset button until the thing blinks. If your network adapter is set to DHCP as well, it should receive a new IP after the router reinitializes. If not, go start/run/cmd/ipconfig /renew. Your router's new LAN IP should be 192.168.0.1 |

| Alright, I'm not going to call Charter tomorrow and just try what Lrrpie said after I attempt a few more passwords. If worse comes to worse, how do I reforward the ports after hard reset?

| To reestablish port forwarding after the reset, log into the router: http://192.168.0.1 (most likely) admin, password On the left, under advanced click on port forwarding/triggering. There are many pre-defined services there. If the service you want to add isn't then click "add custom service" and fill in the fields properly. That should do it! |

| Alright, so I'm back home and about to perform the tremendously daring hard-reset. If I don't post again.....well...then you know something got FUBAR'd.

| So I reset it and nothing happened. I tried again and now I am able to access the modem settings page. Problem is the only computer that can access the internet is the one connected to the modem, not the one connected wirelessly (mine (I won't be able to check MCB again till the morning.)
