Consoles killing PC Gaming?

What do you think? Personally I see only a few games in the future that might help revive the pc: battefield heroes and left 4 dead. One being a free download low-spec game and the other being a valve masterpiece of zombie-art.

But really when one graphics card costs as much as a ps3 makes me wonder why I bother upgrading,renewing and refurbishing my already aging computer hardware. I bought my 8800gt after my 5 yr old but heavily overclocked 7600gt gave out mere months ago. Now the 9800gt is set to hit the marker. Dual core might become a thing of the past within a year, with the arrival of octo-core (yes 4 dual core chips on a mobo).

Buying a ps3 will let you play games for years (how long did the ps2 last?

) with only minor software upgrades available for free.

Why do pc gamers bother anymore?

Yep, that's about all PCs have going for them. Although some FPS's are good on controllers... And RTS games. Can't do that without a mouse either.

I play pretty much FPS exclusively and I can't use a controller for ****.

I use the computer for other things too, it's pretty much my media system. Movies, mp3, homework and of course, PORN. You can't forget good old porn.

PC gamers have a base, I don't feel it's going anywhere. I CANNOT wait for left 4 dead, it's gonna be so kick ass.

The general trend I've noticed is that consoles are become less of a gaming platform and more of an "entertainment system".
Imagine if you could not only play games, but surf the net, watch movies, listen to music and chat with friends! ZOMG now it has a hard drive so you can save your media to it!!!!11one

oh wait, I already have a device that has that and more. Plus more optional peripherals than one can shake a stick at. Usually you can get better deals on games/content (not CoD4 aparently

). Don't get me wrong I still love my PS2, still get some good use out of it. But as for Next Gen systems? no thanks.

Plus, Hardcore gamers go to arcades.

Borderlands! MMmmmm. PC gaming is FPS and RTS. Thats where its at. I have consoles for racing and action/adventure games. I would say more right now. But ambition is gone.

One of the best things about pc gaming is all the add ons and expansions. The first half-life had tons and tons of add ons/mods.

My all time fav add on maps was the whole rats series. I miss those days.

No. (OK, I'll elaborate)

This situation runs in cycles. Whenever We are at the beginning of a Console refresh cycle everyone claims "PC Gaming Dead!". Well Guess what? once the console's get a bit long in the tooth innovative games start to appear on the PC's again and gamers will flock to the newest greatest games on the PC.

Right now Consoles are hot and at the beginning of a refresh, so all is happy good

Now of course the line is blurring some. Console's are now net aware and can download new content, HD TV's are more common so the one of the largest weaknesses of console's in the past has been removed.

I predict a thread in 3 years "Console's suck, PC Gaming is where it's at"

Maybe I'm a bit sullen over the fact MGS4, BF:BC amongst others are never planned for a release on the pc.
