| Mod & Underwear Model | iPod Dock - Opinions? Finally decided to get a nice iPod dock for my home theatre. Just looking for opinions. Requirements are: 1) iPod is a 30gb iPod Video 2) Connecting to a home theatre tuner 3) Must have remote 4) Must be able to output audio AND video 5) Would LIKE to be able to view the menus on the tv screen....essentially I don't want to have to get up and touch the device to do ANYTHING while it's docked) It LOOKS like the $50 Apple dock will fit the bill, but I can't find a clear answer on if it displays the ipod menus on the TV, or just video output. (scratch that....just read some reviews and it only provides limited functionality) Dynex has some that look promising...but I've had some bad experiences with their performance-to-promises ratio in the past.

| Active Member | I absolutely love my iLive iHS3. ![]() The HS3 is a bar system made to be paired with a 32" TV. Rails are already installed on the back and the appropriate material for wall-mounting is included (along with a stand, if you don't want to mount it). Although the system doesn't get extremely loud, it sounds wonderful (and is plenty enough for my bedroom). This isn't a cheap gimmicky system; heavy as a cinderblock, wood bracing and all. It will connect to your home theater, but chances are, sounds just as good (if not better; I say this in comparison to both my Bose SS, Kenwood, and Boston Acoustics systems). It covers all the features you listed and more; generally they run around $300 but now since the newer generation iPods are out, have been drastically reduced (I picked mine up for $70; might [no promises] be able to get another one if you need). Essentially the system will support any iPod, but since the plastic dock brackets included aren't specifically for the newest generation iPods, the system is "outdated" (although the new ones will fit in a couple of the supplied brackets; they aren't as "tight" of a fit).

| Active Member | Very nice. I have a Technics SL-QD2 iTable that I still prefer over the rest of my iGadgets.

| Be careful. The newer ipod Classic, Touch and iPhone have a DRM chip that requires you to use an official Apple dock or cables(or one that is licensing their technology). Without it, video out will not be enabled. Apple Store (U.S.) - Apple Component AV Cable That's the adapter I would use. Here is the composite alternative: Apple Store (U.S.) - Apple Composite AV Cable Last edited by jwigum; 05-28-2008 at 10:34 PM. |
