| Seasoned Member | Weird computer problem... I reinstalled Windows XP today and I'm having a weird problem. I tried installing World of Warcraft and it got to the last disc and my computer basically shut down. It was still running but the monitor shut off and I couldn't get it to start up again without turning it off and on. I tried installing it again and this time on the first disc it had the same problem. So I decided to just try and download the game but again the computer did the same thing while the WoW client was downloading. Later today I tried installing it again and I went through all 5 discs no problem. I started installing the expansion pack but again it did the same thing two times in a row. To test it out further I installed Vice City, but that whole process completed without a single issue! I've tried installing it with two differant CD drives too, I'm pretty stumped, anyone know why this would be happening?

| Your computer is being a good friend by not allowing you to get sucked into WoW....

| Was there a particular reason to be reinstalling XP? Kinda sounds like a heat issue. I have an HP that would randomly reboot because of a heat problem with the power supply. You'd fire it up from being off and after about 45 minutes it would spontaneously reboot. Subsequently it would reboot sooner and sooner, until you turned it off and let it sit a while. Adding a fan and a hole in the case over the power supply fixed the problem. Newer BIOS sometimes supports functions like processor throttling and emergency shut down during over heat.... Catchya on the Flip Side..... Emerald Wolf -- might check that the heatsink fan is still running.... ![]() |

| Since you recently reinstalled , I would suggest updating a few things before plopping wow on it. BIOS InstallShield Is your harddrive formatted correctly ? The monitor issue sounds like a power problem. Try fooling with the monitor plug and see if it helps. Are you using a surge protector and/or battery backup ?

| .:|Purification Admin|:. | check your video card fans and heatsink for buildup as well. I had a nivida 68xx that looked 'clean' once, but the heat sink ridges were blocked around the fan edges to prevent the air from going somewhere useful.

| Seasoned Member | Well I reinstalled windows because I was getting some issues and my harddrive was packed with junk. The issue being that I would get that same random shutdown and sometimes when I rebooted it would go into windows, show all the processes in ctrl-alt-delete, but it wouldn't do anything else like show the icons or start bar. Upon further inspection of my computer everything was really friggen dusty in there so I cleaned everything out and it seems to have solved the problem for now except for the whole issue with WoW.

| 100% More FUN | You should be able to use this to make sure WoW is totally uninstalled. Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility Are you leaving it alone during the install? You might just have hibernate on or something. While you may think that installing several discs is working some puters actually need mouse/keyboard movements. I used to get booted out of long installs all the time. IMO, god is trying to keep you off the crack. |

| Yeah I use to have the same problem for my old computer and the problem was it got too hot when I was playing some games. I solved this problem by getting a better fan. Good luck solving the problem.

| Could also be that Blaster virus from years ago. It exploited a security hole in the original version of XP that allows any computer to remotely shutdown your machine. It was patched with XP-SP1. I still see it whenever I have to reinstall the kids computer. I have to close the hole, then install SP1. But, as said above, sounds most likely like a powersupply, or heating problem. Sometimes reinstalling the OS changes how the fans operate, but thats unlikely
