| Local wireless internet providers I'm moving to the country, well not country country, just outside a moderate sized town in Texas on 2 acres. Coming from less than .20 acre lot, this is huge for me. But moving from the city to the country has some challenges. Now right now I have 10MB down and 512KB up with my local cable provider. The place I am moving to does not have cable and will never get cable. DSL is also out of the picture as is broadband satellite ( reason is the 2 second delay negate VPN connections on satellite ). So all that I have left is wireless internet option from two local providers. They use that microwave/radio technology to send and receive signals. I was wondering if anyone has real experience with wireless local providers and any wisdom they could pass on to me? So far I have had a site survey and signal test. I also asked about the tower's 2007 down time report. Anything else? |

| Mod & Underwear Model | Check into the local carriers, definately. But you might want to consider an EVDO card from Verizon. We've just gotten the newest ones in the office and we're really digging them. HARDLY a screaming connection, but in general very good for what they are. In theory, you could use one of them on a laptop/pc and setup that machine as a proxy to share the connection with other machines in the house. Overall, they're certainly adequate for web surfing/email/etc.....you won't be doing any gaming on them though.
