Nooooooo!

I just dug out my virtual boy... and one side doesnt work anymore!

Now I got to find a bit for opening the thing. Anyone have an inexpensive source for the drivers to open old Nintendo stuff?

I hope I can fix this.. This thing is great, and is getting expensive to replace.

I loved it and used it all the time. Still have mine, just bought more games for it a few months back, though some go for crazy amounts of money. It was discontinued because it was ruining the eyes of children. Apparently it was fine if you are over 5 years old, but under it and i guess it can ruin your eyes. Oh well. Great system. Tons of fun.

i bought this console tool kit on ThinkGeek.com. It has all the tools to work on all the major consoles, from NES to current PS3 and 360. Not sure if it would work on a virtual boy. I'd have to check in the morning. But i also am not keen on trying to take apart my working virtual boy. Mainly use it for the ps2. Will check when i get home tomorrow morning, will post up tomorrow night for ya. I assume it would, as nintendo uses the same screws in most of their system.s

IT causes some fatigue in your eyes, but most poeple werent thrilled with just a black and red system.

Only thing is, to get that same experiance, It would have taken 3 more years to come out with because the blue LED's that would be needed did not exist yet.

Its a really interesting piece of hardware. Wish i had a few more games, I never got to try out Jack Bros. and 3D Tetris. They go for some insane amounts on ebay now though...

Ive got Pinball, Wario, Panic Bomber, Teleroboxer, Red Alert, Vertical Force, Baseball (in Japanese and English), Tennis, V-tetris... Oh, and Golf (Japanese), Mario Clash, I think thats it. Have to look again.

I would love to play that SD Gundam game... but for what that goes for.. ouch. 5 years ago it was in the $200 dollar area.

Let me know if that bit set will fit the VB screws... Either that or its a trip to harbor freight or something to find a driver to modify.

ok just checked. Yeah the kit comes with the head you need to work on the screws in the VB. The head is technically for Nintendo games, like cartridges, but like i said, they use the same screws on most of their stuff. So it fits fine, I could turn the screws and everything. I believe the sheet that came with the kit calls the head a "Linehead Nutsetter #6" if you wanted to find it on its own.

Is it long enough to fit those 4 center screws?

I just saw the thing called a FlashBoy.. lets you load roms and homebrew onto the system. Given a system that has a library of under 30 games, I dont see the problem at all.
