reformatted XP pro

Ok, before I reformatted and reinstalled XP, I was able to pick up wireless connections on my laptop. Now it is only recongizing the cable. It has been so long since I had to screw with it that I can't remember what I did when I got the lap top.

Any help?

damn it!~~~was hoping that XP would auto find hardware that didn't have drivers for it and down load it. Off topic has there been a class action suit against Bill Gates yet for Vista and how nothing will run on it and you have to pay to down grade back to XP?

Is it an internal WiFi card or an external card? Does it actually detect the card in the system?

Hmm...no, but I think Bill did have a class action lawsuit against other people with really bad haircuts, claiming he invented that...

And come on, Vista isn't that bad. Sure it has trouble with some hardware, but guess what, XP had the same problem for the first couple of years it was out. In fact I worked for a company that didn't support XP for a full 16 months after it's release.

However, I am suprised that Vista is supposedly "Horrible" and Windows Server 2008 is hailed as "AWESOME!!!!" when they both have the same code base.

However, Server 2008 really is that awesome. Seriously. I got a free copy of it at the launch party. Best server OS from MS yet!

its internal came with the dell set up. All I know is Vista has been out for 2 years now and my wife is having a fit because she teaches for Kaplan on line and nothing works. It seems that still everything out there does is not supported by Vista. I teach for ITT and none of the brand new software ie AutoCad 2008, Inventor 2008 ect. is supported by Vista.

I dual boot with Vista since a new computer came with it, and end up using XP a lot more.

Laptops usually have a bunch of drivers you have to install specifically to get them to work 100%. You should be able to download them all from the web site. Go to your Device Manager and look for !!!! 's

Check out the dell site for the xp wireless drivers for your model.

I work in IT and I've found that much of the software that I've tested that is unsupported in Vista works fine.

Ok an internal card.

onecaribou hit the nail on the head. Go find the drivers at the Dell site.

Or if your in for a big adventure, find out who made the internal card and it's model number, and download their drivers. Probably newer/better than any Dell would have.

On your laptop you will have drivers for all of the onboard hardware. Audio, video, wireless internet, wired internet.

Your MFG should have those drivers for your to download.

Its a challenge and you should install your chipset driver first followed by any other intel drivers.

Its really not the easiest. I just took care of my girlfriends modern Thinkpad and it went smoothly but was by no means easy to do correctly.

The drivers will be on the factory CD
AutoCad2k8 runs on vista, most everything does. The only thing may be the 64bit OS.

I still don't see why everyone has such issues with it.
