PS3 and Xbox 360 Questions...

Okay,

Well I had to end up fixing my Xbox 360 now I have the problem of the power. Its set up to take 220v input as its from South Korea. Now the problem is I can't just change the plug and stick it in the wall as it MUST have 220v input. So the question is could I just get an AMERICAN power brick and have it work without issue with my box or do I need to go find a 210 watt output step up transformer?

PS3 - I plug everything in and turn it on and I just get a blank screen with buzzing from the sound cables. I dont see any bad looking lights on the console itself. I've tried "resetting" the video output back to SD by turning it on and off while plugged into the tv and no dice. I really dont know a whole lot about PS3 errors and how to fix them so advice would be helpful. I am going to pick up a new video cable and see if that fixes it.

No idea on the 360, mine is US.

For the PS3, is it used? Did the previous owner have it set up to run HDMI? That could be why. You have to tell the PS3 to work on HDMI output. So if it is configured for that, it won't be outputting signal over normal component and audio cables, only the HDMI. I know cause my friend couldn't get it to use the HDMI cable he bought, only worked on the component and AV cables. Once he told the system to output HDMI, then it worked fine.

It is used. Might have been set up for HDMI. How can I change it back if I can't get a video screen to post at all?

that i don't know. I'd have to find a menu map for the console somewhere and then slowly work your way thru the steps. Not being able to see will suck. But assuming you find the proper menu map, it wouldn't be drastically hard. Try sony.com for a manual, there should, i stress should, be some kind of map inside i would hope that would take you thru all the steps in its menu.

Worst case I'll haul it over to my friends house, he's got a HDMI TV I can check on. I guess I'll do both of those this weekend and see if I can't get this sucker working.

Answer

NOTE: If you are attempting to change from a different video cable or if the video output settings do not match those required for the display in use, the screen may stay black. If the screen stays black for more than 30 seconds, you may need to reset the video output settings of the PLAYSTATION 3. To do so:
Turn the PLAYSTATION 3 system off by holding the Power button on the front of the console.
Then hold the power button on the front of the console for at least five seconds to turn the system on again. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution.

According to this picture, the power brick might be universal (can take 110 or 220). So maybe all you need is a different plug...
Check the back of your power brick to see what power input it can take.
If yours isn't universal, all you'll need is a new power brick.

Do they also use the NTSC video system in Korea?

I tried plugging it in. The brick didnt even register that there was power, requires a 220v input.

Its a NTSJ system over there, so it would kinda suck to have to buy a new xbox, though some of my games are region free.
