Is My Computer Picking Up Wireless Connection?

I'm trying to find out if my computer is picking up my Linksys wireless router connection. The Linksys plugs are hooked into my computer but I want to make sure that i'm picking up my own secure connection. Thank you in advance!

depending on the O/S, you should be able to just bring up your network connection screen and see the name of the router you are connected to.

Of course if you live in an apt complex and then you might see 5 or 6 "Linksys" connections....best bet is to rename yours so you know what you are connecting to.

That and lock it down as best as you can so people don't start jacking into your bandwidth.....mmmmmmmm free delicious bandwidth

Do the above. Totally.

Rename it and lock it up so that when you do surf, you're not gonna be slowed down by someone trying to piggyback on your signal.

Whitelist + SSID broadcast off is probably the best combo out there. Even if someone knows your SSID, and can figure out your admin name and pw, they can't connect unless you've put their mac address on the white list .

Heck, if you lock it down and still run a whitelist, then even if they got a hold of your security key they couldn't access the network .

I love access lists .
