How to use a Xbox 360 as a mass storage device.

I need to back up all of my wife' picture before the pending crash of my computer. Figuring I have tons of room on my 360 I want to transfer them there via my modem. I do not have Window's Media Center which is for streaming content anyway. I simply (I hope) want my computer to detect the 360 and use it to store the pics. So... does any one know how to do this easily?
Thanks
Tug

I meant I should use my Router to transfer the files.

Im not sure how its done howwever you could just load back-ups onto a thumb drive or external HD and transfer them to the 360 HD via the USB.

I BELIEVE you can stream without Windows Media center as long as you're using Media Player 11.x

Although I'd think that a big usb thumb drive, or external usb hard drive would be a much better option. If the impending crash leaves it down for longer than expected, you can just plug that usb drive into another system and still have USE of the files.

Then, when you're back up, the external drive becomes a nice quick backup device so you don't have to worry in case the next 'crash' isn't a scheduled event !

I'm considering using a thumb drive, however Microsquash made the access to the USB port very small, I'm going to have to get a dongel I believe if I go that route. I may just plug in the 360 via the ethernet ports.

If it's just pics, why don't you store them on an online storage site, like picasa?

Go for a real on-line file storage instead of Picassa. At default settings they down sample your photos

I love Picassa for sharing with friends/family. But it is not a great way to actually store the originals.

Check out Adrive - 50 GB online free. I've used it for a year and it's been great.

I didnt see it mentioned yet so here it is, why not just burn them to disc? Making backups this way will be a permanent file with no big expense or huge loss of time. Plus you could loan them if you so desire.

I'd be careful.. some disc media last just a few years. I've had CD's from the late 90's sitting in a sealed container near by desk that started flaking apart a couple years ago.

That is part of it plus whatever we get next will most likely be a Vista machine so I can conect dircectly and use it to stream pics. Unfortunately I knocked over the 360 and it dropped about 3 feet on to it's side, this caused my Halo 3 disk to fall out of the disk drive and into the 360. So my 360 is going back to Texas for a Halo 3 diskectomy .
