Anyone here play WAR yet? How does it stack up to Wow and DAoC?

Its better than DAoC and will become a WoW killer when more people start playing.... IE Its the worst thing you can do if you want to have a life. Though it appears that its less grind, more quests and objectives.

It's pretty cool, I've been playing for 2 weeks now. It has great potential, and for an MMO, it's a good, smooth release. Few bugs and server problems. In fact I'd say the release is actually too smooth... The problem is that, even though a lot of people are playing the game (They say 800k active accounts), there are too many servers. The world is really large, and this means that on a server that doesn't have a high pop, it actually feels kinda empty... They added so many severs because at first, there were long queues to enter some servers. However, now it seems they added a little too many... They are working on free server transfers right now, and may close down a few low pop servers later on. Anyway, besides the server problems, there are still a couple of balance issues to be fixed (Overpowerd Brightmage, and ranged classes in general, especially in T3+). Also the (experiance) rewards for ORvR aren't really balanced compared to scenarios, and the somewhat meaningless ORvR in general... But they are working on this stuff, and hopefully after the december patch (In which they'll also add 2 new classes!!) most of this will be sorted out. Anyway, sofar it's pretty good. Much better than WoW, or most other MMO's were at launch. So if you decide to get it, make sure you start on a high pop server if you can!

I played for a little bit on a friends trial, and while I liked the game, my lack of time and crappy computer stopped me from really enjoying it. I actually play Warhammer and Warhammer 40k, so it was nice to know about the background etc. before hand. I liked it more than WoW, and would possibly play it again, given more money, time, and a much faster computer. |

Played it for about 4 weeks beginning on release day, then began to lose interest. For comparison- I've played both Warhammer and Warhammer 40K for well over a decade and compulsively buy any computer game that is attached to the GW brand. I play the heck out of it, then my ADD kicks in and I'm over it...uninstall...and retire the game to my ever-growing library of "games I will never play again, but keep for posterity." I started playing WoW in Feb. of this year. My gal got me into it and I've taken my first step down the 12-step path by admitting I have an addiction. The number of folks I know in real-life that play WoW has increased my usually short attention-span, and so I stay an active player in WoW. WAR is a good game..don't get me wrong. They did a lot of things right and few things wrong. In comparison to WoW, Warhammer surpasses WoW in all but one problematic category...The problem (for me) is the lack of social connection. I'm on a low-population server and the guild I'm in isn't all that great. I am still unsure if I'll pick WAR back up or not. I have a feeling that once the MMO is a bit more established, I'll probably give it a second shot and see if it's as engrossing as WoW currently is for me. Since WoW has an expansion coming out in a couple weeks, I'll most likely return to WAR once I've played through the new WoW content and ran out of things to do. I figure by then, I'll be able to look at WAR's server populations and transfer to one with an established playerbase. |
