Brass N Wood Fan
Another Paypal Rant

ok, so I've been a paypal member since October 2000. Good standing the entire time, a few disputes, but i've always cleared them up.

So paypal goes and pushes through a eBay seller fee charge directly into my bank account even though I didn't authorize this to come from my bank. I thought it reasonable that i'm unhappy, and I remove my bank account information from Paypal. Seems that some time in the last year, one of the MANY 'terms and conditions' updates said they could do this. FINE.

Now I go and try to pay for something online with my paypal account. I CAN'T! They have imposed a 'Sending Cap' of $10,000 on any 'unverified' account. Seems in the last 8 years, I've had over $11,000 go through Paypal. So while I can receive a limited amount of payments, I can't SEND to another Paypal member.

So, if i'm getting this right, a NEW member who is unverified and has sent under $10,000 thought paypal is a better customer than a 8 year old member with established track record? Am I missing something here?

Strangely enough I was still able to spend my money with my debit card, just not sent to another member (where they would get another cut of the $$).

Anybody have any suggestions for less screwed-up online payment methods?

As always, the Tom prefers the use of United States Postal money orders. Mostly because. Wait. Something intelligent was going to come out, but didn't. Aw crap.

In short. USPS MO are the way to go. At least for me.

I'd never deal with paypal for any reason too much BS and too many horror stories for my liking. I'll pay with an MO or if they are in Canada certapay. If neither one of those options are acceptable I walk

Email interac transfers are good. Costs $1 through RBC and most of the big banks offer it. MO's suck at $5 each especially for small dollar items.

PayPal is the price you pay for fast transfers of money and relatively low fees. *shrug* I also tend to avoid selling things on eBay these days, though certain things just beg for an expanded auction public.

Yea Certapay FTW. $1.50 through CIBC for me on any transfers up to $10000

Melk just do what i did when that happens. Close the current Paypal account and open a new one under a new Email address, then after you have it for a few days, change the email address to your original one. Worked fine for me.

Though i did eventually "authenticate" my account with them so i could recieve money straight to my bank account. But that was almost a year later
