Cell Phones

I am looking into getting a cell phone for the first time and am thinking that a T-mobil plan may be my best bet, before I jump, is there any words of caution that any of you may have for me?

We've had nothing but problems with Sprint and without going into it I would advise against them.

I have had T-Mobil for years. It even works under Boston Harbor. Long story

Personally, I've never had problems w/ Sprint (Nor. Calif) but I've always had issues with Cingular.

It's really going to depend on where you live and where you want it to work. My Sprint never worked (unless I turned on the Roaming features) in Carmel Valley but my Nextel did. Cingular didn't work in Downtown SJ inside buildings unless I was next to a window but my Sprint Did.

Had Verizon all my Cellphone life. Never had any major probs.

Be aware of the contracts, early termination fees and all.

Unless you plan on using it a lot, you may want to consider a pre-paid plan instead of signing a monthly contract.

With that said, talk to people in your area and find out how reception is for the different Companies. I have used Verizon and Cingular and they both have Craptacular customer service.

Check w/ other people in your area.
Which carrier is best, depends entirely on your area.
You may also want to check into some pre-paid options, especially if you're planning to use this as a secondary phone, and not replace your land-line entirely.

Pre-paid.

honestly, all cell phones here in the US pretty much suck. Im debating even keeping mine, probably will until the thing dies, and that's it.

Talk to the people you call the most and find out what service they have. Many carriers offer free calls to people on the same network which can really save you money. This past month with my Sprint service I used 445 Anytime Minutes (450 available in my plan) and 880 minutes Sprint to Sprint calls (free).
