Lever-action CO2 Quick-Change for the Phantom

Hi!

I know a metal-working guy who I talked about making a lever-action CO2 quick-change and he is very willing to do it.

The basic design that we've looked at is based on the Line SI quick-change that was used on the original Line SI Bushmaster: a gorgeous, smooth action and the cartridge is ejected by gravity (it's not ejected by the lever).

Right now, we're going to make one that will use the existing CCI Phantom drop-out changer - the one with the large screw on the end. If you're not sure about what kind of changer that I'm talking about, take a look at the Wevo Paintball photos of Phantoms with drop-out changers - the photo of the red one makes it really easy to see.

The quick-change will simply replace the large screw on the end (my idea, in order to keep it simple and also cheaper). The use of a washer (selected from a set) will let a person control exactly where the lever is positioned (90-degrees left, 45-degrees left, 30-degrees left, straigth down, 70-degress right, etc.)

Right now, it looks like we'll be able to keep this at about $80 per unit (fingers crossed).

If you're interested in this, PM me.

I remember seeing something similar to this on PhOG a while back. They used the CO2 lever off a ???? semi pistol instead of the Line SI-ish one you're talking about. Folks said they worked well.

Will it be the whole valve body or just the screw replacement?

Screw-in vs. whole valve body

Right now, it will be the screw replacement.

I like idea of having a whole valve body made, but that almost doubles the cost. With that in mind, screw-in looks good to me!

The big benefit of the screw-in will be the ability to have the lever at any position that each person wants/feels most comfortable with.

I heard that!!

The good part is that the more people that are committed to getting one, the lower the price.

At this time, there is a bit of a "leap of faith" to make for those people who really want one: I don't know exactly (nor does the guy who will be making them) how much lower the price will be until he actually makes a production run.

He's guessing that if we get an order or more that 10 (ten), he might be able to get the price down about $10 (maybe a couple of dollars more).

Another good point is that, at that quantity (10 or more), annodizing them becomes maybe only a couple of dollars each (the color choices would be black, black and black). He's going to check into that before he finishes the production run.

All he's waiting for is my saying, "Go!"

All I'm working on before saying, "Go!", is enough firm committments to get the price in the $80 and under range. We're almost there.

I'd love to see the committments get to the over-10 mark, just to get to the next price break. Cheaper is good!!

My adivce:
Get a proto-type going. Youll be able to work out the kinks in the process and have something to show. Then we have an idea of what to expect. I do like your idea and wish you luck!
